Mr. Yang has three Big Policy Ideas–Universal Basic Income, Medicare for All, and Human Capitalism–all supported by the most comprehensive and detailed set of policy proposals we have ever seen at this stage of a campaign.
In his book, The War on Normal People, he explains the mounting job crisis created by the automation of labor. To provide for the workers left behind by this trend, and to ensure a basic level of dignity and security for every American, he proposes a Freedom Dividend: a Universal Basic Income of $1,000 a month. You can read about how this would work here: https://www.yang2020.com/what-is-ubi/ He also proposes a single-payer health care system, and rethinking our economy in line with three principles:
– Humans are more important than money
– The unit of a Human Capitalism economy is each person, not each dollar
– Markets exist to serve our common goals and values
Mr. Yang has worked in startups and early-stage growth companies as a founder or executive for almost twenty years. He was named a Presidential Ambassador of Entrepreneurship by the White House, and a Champion of Change, for his work with a national entrepreneurship fellowship called Venture for America, which he founded in 2011. Venture for America helped to create almost 3,000 jobs in Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and other cities. He lives in New York City with his wife and two sons.
